The Minnesota Board of Optometry has approved the NGS live webinars in January - March as live CE. New MN regulations acknowledge interactive courses can be live or remote via a webinar. The NGS will continue to submit all live webinars to the MN Board for approval.JANUARY - MARCH WEBINARS APPROVED IN NY
The NGS live webinars in January, February and March have been approved by the New York State Board of Optometry. Since New York regulations specify that a live course is one in which participants are able to interact with the instructor, the NGS live webinars count as live CE for renewal of a NY license.MICHIGAN BOARD APPROVES WEBINARS
At their November meeting, the Michigan Board of Optometry approved the October-December 2018 and January-March 2019 NGS webinars. We recommend that you consider these webinars to be on-line CE for a Michigan license. Michigan Optometry Rule 338.323(h) allows up to 20 hours of continuing education (half of the 40 hours required in each 2-year cycle) to be obtained from "multimedia education, including online continuing education, approved by the Board."UPDATE ON FLORIDA APPROVAL OF WEBINARS
At their June 22 meeting, the Florida Board of Optometry agreed that any prior NGS live webinars approved by the Board would be acceptable as CE for renewal of a Florida license this biennial, which ends February 28, 2019. However, they decided to restrict the number of online CE in the future to 2 hours of controlled substances education and 2 hours of practice management. Since the NGS does not offer webinars in controlled substances or practice management, no current or future NGS webinars will be submitted for approval in Florida.
WEBINARS SUBMITTED TO MINNESOTA AND VERMONT
The NGS continues to monitor changes in State Regulations that allow continuing education through live webinar formats. As a result, we have applied to two more states for approval of the NGS live webinars. In Minnesota, new regulations went into effect July 11, 2018 which acknowledge interactive courses can be live or remote via a webinar, teleconferencing or videoconferencing; the NGS has applied to the Minnesota Board for approval of the October webinars. Vermont regulations permit continuing education programs conducted on-line; the NGS has applied to the Vermont Board for approval of the October - December webinars.
